The St. Louis Cardinals announced Sunday the team has recalled John Brebbia from Memphis and placed Adam Wainwright on the 10-day DL, who is suffering right elbow inflammation.
“I think he seems OK with it. He doesn’t want it to get to the point where it was before,” manager Mike Matheny said. “What can he do proactively instead of being reactive to having it really flare up. He’s on a good program to get a little more rest, get a little more treatment with it to get ahead of it and then get back out there and compete. That’s the thought right now.”
Adam Wainwright when asked what the appropriate level of concern should be for his latest trip to DL: “If you are concerned whether I make 30 or 31 starts, then be very concerned. If you are concerned whether I’m going to make 30 or 10, then not.”

Wainwright was originally scheduled to pitch Tuesday against New York, Weaver will slide into that game on regular rest and the rest of the rotation will follow suit according to Matheny.
Brebbia appeared in two games in relief for St. Louis earlier this season, registering 2.0 scoreless innings.
Wainwright is 1-2 with a 3.45 ERA this season.
All will be well in a few days.
