Adam Wainwright is one step closer to spending his entire career as a redbird. The 38-year-old vet signed a one-year deal through the 2020 season with the Cardinals on Tuesday. The details of the contract were not disclosed but this was a contract that was not guaranteed for Wainwright at the start of the year.
After signing Wainwright last year for two million he had to earn every spot he got amongst the ever-growing youth in the Cardinals bullpen. Wainwright came out and delivered in the 2019 season, posting a 14-10 record with a 4.19 ERA, capping it off with a 1.62 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16 ¾ innings before the Cardinals were eliminated in the NLCS.
