The National Hockey League (NHL) announced Tuesday that Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington has been named “Rookie of the Month” for March. Binnington, who went 6-3-0 with a 2.37 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage for the month, has become just the second goaltender to earn the honor in consecutive months since 2006-07.
Binnington allowed three or fewer goals in eight of his nine appearances in March, vaulting the Blues (43-28-8, 94 points) to second place in the Central Division and their seventh playoff berth in the past eight seasons.
He’s gone 22-5-1 since Jan. 7 (his first NHL start), sharing the League lead in wins since that point and pacing all goaltenders with a 1.78 goals-against average (min. 20 appearances).
He collected his 20th career victory in just his 25th career start (March 23 vs. TBL), joining Ross Brooks, Andrew Hammond, Frederik Andersen and Bill Durnan as the only goaltenders in NHL history to accumulate as many wins through their first 25 career starts.
Binnington joins Canucks center Elias Pettersson as a multiple Rookie of the Month winner in 2018-19.
