The St. Louis Cardinals are the hottest team in baseball, winning 19 of their last 25 games during the month of August.

They return for a six game homestead against divisional opponents in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds before heading to Detroit to take on the Tigers.

The Cardinals lead the National League Wild Card race with half of a game in hand over the Milwaukee Brewers. If they want to make a playoff push they’ll have to continue their dominance into September as Chicago retains a four game lead in the National league Central.

Matt Carpenter has remained hot in the batters box for St. Louis mashing four doubles in Sunday’s victory over Colorado.

Combined with superb defensive play in the field and a pitching staff that has found a new identity, St. Louis is poised for success in October if they can take care of business at home against divisional opponents.

The Cardinals kick off the homestand Tuesday night at Busch as Jack Flaherty toes the rubber against Pittsburgh’s Ivan Nova.
