St. Louis Cardinals Acquire Matt Adams Off Waivers From Washington

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired Matt Adams off of from waivers from the Washington Nationals on Tuesday.

Adams is batting .257 with 18 home runs and 48 RBI this season with Washington. He previously spent time with the Cardinals organization, who drafted the him in 2009.

In addition to Adams, the Nationals parted ways with All-Star second baseman Daniel Murphy, acquired by the Chicago Cubs.

The addition of Adams gives St. Louis another left-handed bat, but also creates a logjam at first base with Jose Martinez.
