After an impressive debut week for the BattleHawks and the XFL, it’s back to business as the week comes to a close. St. Louis will travel to Houston to play the Roughnecks, who scored a league-high 37 points last week and are led by quarterback, P.J. Walker from Temple. Walker passed for a league-high four touchdowns last week, which sets up for a good matchup with Jordan Ta’amu.
Ta’amu’s game last Sunday ended a lot better than it started. Two early drives where they were forced to punt put a lot of strain on the defense early.
The defense prevailed and that allowed the offense to open things up. Ta’amu began with short, easy throws, and running the ball a lot more than even he expected.
One thing that stuck out to all players in the first week of the XFL was the play clock, which is set at 25 seconds.
Although it can be an adjustment for most teams, the quick decision making, and the ability for the skilled players to get the play call right away before going to the line is very important.
If the BattleHawks want to come home to St. Louis undefeated they will need to establish their offense early. If Ta’amu can have some positive gains early and the running game does just what it did last week, the BattleHawks will set themselves up for a victory.
