On perhaps the strangest day to make an announcement, MLB released the Gold Glove winners for the 2020 shortened season. For the first time in his career, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tyler O’Neill captured aGold Glove. Playing in 50 games this year, O’Neill was second behind Lourdes Gurriel in putouts by a left fielder. This Gold Glove also shouldn’t have come as a surprise given that a few weeks ago he won the Fielding Bible Awards of Baseball Info Solutions.
The announcements were kind of bittersweet with who won the Gold Glove for second basemen: Kolten Wong. Wong is currently a free agent and after the Cardinals declined his option, the door seems to be closed on him coming back for less money. The Cardinals also came close to having a third Gold Glove winner with Paul Goldschmidt finishing second behind Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs who won his fourth Gold Glove.
